Melampyrum sylvaticum Small Cow-wheat
Also known as Wood Cow-wheat, this plant is about the same size as the much commoner (in the British Isles) Melampyrum pratense (Common Cow-wheat) The difference is in the size of the flowers. These are about half the size of M. pratense and have a fringe around the lip. M. sylvaticum will often be found in the hills and mountain up to 8,000 feet.
