Lolium multiflorum Italian Rye-grass DD I
This introduction from southern Europe grass is sometimes grown as a crop and so some escapes in the wild. It is much taller than the native L. perenne (Perennial Rye-grass) and nearly always has quite long awns.
It is common throughout England, Wales and the lowland of Scotland but records thin towards the far north. It is more common in the east of Ireland than the west.
