Juniperus communis ssp communis Juniper
This valley where the glacier has receded rapidly over the last century was both high enough and cool enough to perhaps expect the mountain sub species Juniperus communis ssp nana (Juniperus sibirica) which grows in this region too. Common Juniper flourished here as it does in much more lowland habitats in the British Isles. There are several other Juniper species to be found in Switzerland including Juniperus oxycedrus, Juniperus phoenicea, Juniperus sabina, Juniperus thurifera and Juniperus tubinata.
