Hybanthus calycinus Wild Violet
Although a member of the Violaceae family, this plant is nothing like the wild violets which are typical of a British springtime. These stand on tall (about 50 cm) stems with florets all the way up and unlike our small and shy flowers, these make quite a splash in the Australian bush in August and September.
One of the first flowers I saw a day or so after arriving in Australia was this one and the common name it was given was: Cinderella's slippers - much better than boring old "Wild Violet".
Name Change: Hybanthus calycinus is now known as Pigea calycina
