Euphorbia paralias   Sea Spurge C DD N

Euphorbia paralias whole Euphorbia paralias close

This spurge is found fairly frequently in dunes near the sea on Anglesey but isn't that common. It flowers in mid summer where the much small and prostrate E. portlandica (Portland Spurge) with which it grows, flowers in the early spring.

E. paralias is entirely coastal as its name suggests and can be found on much of the west facing Great British coastline as far north as the south Ayrshire. It is also found on the east Anglian coast but not much elsewhere on the eastern side of great Britain. It is hardly found at all in mid and northern Scotland and in Ireland most is to be found on the eastern coasts.
