Eryngium campestre   Field Eryngo

Eryngium campestre whole Spain Eryngium campestre close Spain

It was too early to expect E. campestre to be properly in flower but this specimen has the spiky bracts and habit typical of this plant which is very rare in the British Isles. Unlike the one we found on Guernsey growing in lush grassland, this one was thriving in rather barren, hard-baked Mediterranena soil.
