Erigeron alpinus   Alpine Fleabane

Erigeron alpinus whole Erigeron alpinus close

Looking very similar to Erigeron borealis (Boreal or Alpine Fleabane) which is a species found in sub arctic or arctic regions and on mountain ledges in Scotland in the British Isles, this plant was in damp valley grassland but not at all common. There are many varieties and sub species of E. alpinus quoted in the literature. It is known from the Alps, the Pyrenees and the Apennines in mainland Europe as well as the mountains of Greece and Norway.

The delicate lilac flowers have attracted gardeners and various Erigeron species including E. alpinus are grown as low maintenance rockery plants.
