Erica x watsonii Hybrid Heather DD N
The colour and size of the flowers on this hybrid (Erica ciliaris x Erica tetralix) are very similar to the pure Erica ciliaris which grows close by. Only the experts can go straight to the plants and say immediately which is which. On close examination the hybrid's leaves owe more to the Cross-leaved Heath (Erica tetralix) while the flowers are similar to Erica ciliaris (Dorset Heath).
As you would expect, this hybrid only grows where both parents are to be found and so is only recorded form Cornwall and Dorset. There is none in Scotland, Ireland or Wales.
