Dactylorhiza maculata Heath Spotted-orchid
In the British Isles this orchid is most commonly associated with acidic soils and can be found amongst typical heathland vegetation like Heathers. Here it was flourishing in the company of plants which prefer basic or neutral soils but the markings on the labellum were exactly the same as in Britain. Dactylorhiza maculata is found throughout the mountains of Europe perhaps with the exception of the Apennines.
