Cryptandra pungens Endemic
The pungens part of the Latin binomial refers to the thin spines you can just about see sticking out of the clusters of flowers. Crypt means hidden and the andra part of the generic name refers to the male part of the flowers: the stamens. The stamens appear to be hidden in little spherical cavities which face the centre of the floret.
Cryptandra pungens is very common along the south western coastal plain even extendng slightly into the wheat belt.
