Crocosmia pottsii   Potts' Montbretia DD I

Crocosmia pottsii Crocosmia pottsii

This introduction from South Africa is one of the parents of the commonest Monbretia: Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora. It is slightly larger overall and with stamens hardly exerted from the flower but the flowers are the same startling orange of the garden flower.

This plant has naturalised itself here and there in the British Isles but the greatest concentration of records lies to the west of the Scottish industrial lowlands. There is a little in north Wales where this on was photographed and some dotted around Ireland.
