Cicerbita plumieri Hairless Blue-sowthistle I
Many gardens back on to these woods near Blackburn in Lancashire and inevitably there will be escapes particularly from members of the Asteraceae with fluffy seeds which can be distributed by the wind. This has happened with this unmissable species which can produce plants more the seven feet tall. The terminal lobe of the leaf is distinctly triangular in Cicerbita plumieri and more ovate in Cicerbita macrophylla (Common Blue-sowthistle) which is commoner and with which it can be confused. Cicerbita plumieri is an introduction from central Europe.
