Carex recta Estuarine Sedge RRR DD N
This very rare sedge grows only in Scotland with its main outposts near Lairg and Wick. Since both are North of Inverness you have to travel some way from England before you can start to look. At Wick it can be confused with other sedges which grow nearby but near Lairg where this specimen was found, the only other sedge is Carex rostrata (Bottle Sedge) which looks nothing like Carex recta (Estuarine Sedge).
This is quite a tall sedge up to a metre or so in height with even the lowest bract exceeding the inflorescence.
