Carex pendula   Pendulous Sedge C DD N

Carex pendula whole Carex pendula close

This is a native sedge which appears to be doing the reverse of escaping. I see more and more of this elegant looking sedge growing around "water-features" in gardens. It is reputed to prefer heavy rich soils but there is plenty to be seen on our light sandy soils in Cheshire. This is a large sedge up to 5 feet tall and really can't be mistaken for anything else.

Carex pendula is very often recorded in England and Wales and is also found in southern Scotland and Ireland but is uncommon in the far north.
