Carex panicea   Carnation Sedge C DD N

Carex panicea

Although it doesn't show in the photograph, this is a very glaucous sedge found, like many small sedges, in boggy areas. Its distinctive characteristic is that the fruits create a very knobbly appearance - difficult to describe but it makes it fairly easy to identify even when it grows alongside other sedges of similar habit.

This sedge is found throughout the British Isles and Ireland.
