Carex nigra

The fruits of this sedge go black as they mature hence its name Carex nigra. It is a common sedge the fruits of which stay erect but it can be very variable with very short plants and ones nearly 70 cm tall. This was was about 25 cm tall.

As its name suggests this sedge is found throughout the British Isles and Ireland.
