Carex hostiana Tawny Sedge C DD N
The background in the LHS photo has been removed to show the spacing on this sedge. Tawny sedge can be quite tall up to 60 or 70 cm and the distance between the fruiting spikelets and the terminal male spikelet makes it quite difficult to get the whole plant in a photo close-up. Often found in base rich boggy ground it is very common in Scotland, Wales and the southwest of England but less common in the central and southeast of England. It is common in Ireland.
