This was one of those days you remember for a long time. As well as beautiful butterflies like Apollo, Queen of Spain Fritillary, Heath Fritillary, Black-veined white and Swallowtail there were all kinds of plants in including this one which appeared to be quite common.

Campanula patula is rare and vulnerable in the UK and one must plan a special expedition to find it without being certain of success as it comes and goes even in its usual habitats. The others in our Naturetrek party perhaps found it difficult to understand my excitement at seeing such plentiful numbers of what was for them just another Pyrenean roadside "weed".

In 2015 the lanes of the Picos de Europea displayed Campanula patula as the commonest bellflower to be seen including some white ones (see below).
