Campanula barbata Bearded Bellflower
It wasn't until I saw the hairs on the lip of the bells of this mountain Campanula close up on the computer screen that I understood why it was called Bearded Bellflower. Close up it is an attractive plant of medium height found in the Alps and the Cevennes and one which alpine gardeners have adopted but, they say, is a short lived perennial. It can be grey-blue, white or purplish in the wild but cultivars have a wider range of colours.
