Callistemon glaucus Albany Bottlebrush
Exploring an unsealed road (dirt track) near Peaceful Bay which is a little way east of Walpole, we came across these very tall shrubs with glaucus leaves and bright crimson flowers up high and out of photographing reach. Reasoning that where there was one there might be more, we found some shrubs with more flowers on and lower down further along the track. The flowers look like laboratory bottle brushes as do the flowers of quite a few species such as Melaleuca sp which are also sometimes known by locals as Bottlebrushes but strictly that common name should apply only to Callistemon flowers.
Callistemon glaucus is distributed along a narrow strip of coast from around Albany to Margaret River and a little way inland but is really only found in this far south western corner of Western Australia.
