Brachypodium pinnatum   Tor-grass C DD N

Brachypodium pinnatum 1 Brachypodium pinnatum 2

A fairly tall grass with spiked flowers and awns, we don't see this at all in Cheshire as it is mostly found in Central and Eastern England on calcareous grassland. There is very little in either Scotland or Wales. It has shorter awns than B. sylvaticum (False Brome) and is almost completely hairless.
