Boronia cymosa Granite Boronia
Growing on land which had been burnt in the not very recent past, there were clumps of this species of Boronia all over the place. Boronia species are noted for their fragrance as are others in the family Rutaceae such as the Lemon which has a beautiful scent. They are named after Francesco Borone who never saw Boronia species flowering as he never travelled to Australia and died after sleepwalking from a second floor window in 1794 at the age of 26. He was a talented assistant to Sir James Smith a distinguished botanist of that era and who decided to dedicate this genus to the memory of his friend.
Boronia cymosa is found mostly in a strip on the coastal plain from north of Perth to beyond Geraldton.
