Banksia sphaerocarpa var caesia Round-fruited Banksia Endemic
There are several varieties of this endemic Banksia each with spherical fruit hence the name. The flower itself produces nectar which quickly changes colour until after a few days it is quite black. The reason for this is not yet known although many theories have been advanced. As with many Western Australian plants B. sphaerocarpa can be pollinated by insects, birds or small mammals.
