Arbutus unedo   Strawberry Tree RRR DD N

Arbutus unedo whole Arbutus unedo whole

This tree has naturalised itself in many places on the Great Orme in North Wales where it thrives so much it has become a bit invasive. The fruit, when just ripe, look like strawberries hanging from the twigs. Apart from its "strawberries" this tree has a distinctive red bark. It is native in Ireland where the two main photos were taken and probably "escaped" or bird-sown elsewhere in Great Britain.

For better photos of the flowers and fruit from the naturalised trees in the Great Orme see the large images.
