Anthemis tricolor   Three-coloured Chamomile Cyprus endemic

Anthemis tricolor

On our conducted Orchid walk near Hizarkoy we suddenly came on two Cyprus endemics growing intermingled with one another. Onosma fruticosum was one endemic but next to it were several plants of Anthemis tricolor. This was in 2004 when we visited northern (Turkish) Cyprus for the first time but we visited southern (Greek) Cyprus in 2011 and I recognised these little prostrate daisy-like flowers from my previous trip.

Anthemis tricolor is both rare and an endemic occurring in only a few places on Cyprus itself. It has been recorded as an introduction herr and there in northern Europe probably as a garden escape.
