This plant is very common in woods where it often flowers in thousands beginning in March. It can also be found in mountains on ledges and and under rocks. It is easy to find in early spring and can even be in flower by 1st March.

Apart from a few northern places such as parts of the Flow Country in Caithness, Anemone nemorosa is recorded virtually everywhere in the British isles.
