This is a weed of the arable fields and waste places but enjoys life in any sandy area. You often find it at the seaside where white and blue forms can sometimes be found (e.g. Rhosneigr).

This plant is widespread in England, Wales and Ireland but records begin to get fewer in southern Scotland except at the coast and in the far north it is scarce.
