Ammophila arenaria   Marram C DD N

Ammophila arenaria Ammophila arenaria

This very common seaside plant is now used extensively by conservationists to preserve dune systems and sandy areas near the sea from "blow-out", and general erosion. The extensive rhizomes and roots of this plant make it ideal for securing soft dune systems.  It is very tough too.  Attractive from a distance, this spiky grass is the last place you would want to settle down in for a seaside picnic.
