Titiana's Fritillary Boloria titiana
Also known as the Purple Bog Fritillary this member of the Nymphalidae family (Heliconiinae sub family) is a mountain butterfly not usually found at heights below 2,500 feet. The underwing pattern is characteristic with shapes like little brown rose hips at the edge. In Europe it can be found in the Alps, the Jura and the Massif Central. The sub species cypris has more purplish markings on the underwing probably giving rise to the alternate common name.
The larval food plants can be Viola species, Vaccinium uliginosum (Bog Bilberry), Persicaria bistorta (Bistort), Filipendula ulmaria (Meadowsweet) and Trollius asiaticus (Asian Globeflower).
