Silver-studded Blue Plebeius argus ssp argus
I didn't even know I had this photo until I revisited a collection looking for good plant photos. This was taken on the Great Orme where there is a distinct sub-species (ssp caernensis) of this butterfly but to confuse matters the usual sub species (ssp argus) also flies there. The more solid dark edge markings on this male suggest ssp argus and not ssp caernensis. Plebeius argus ssp caernensis (male) has the blue of the wing extending through the black band to produce a more flecked appearance rather than a solid dark edge as in this one.
