Large Wall Brown Lasiommata maera
I took a few photos of a particularly handsome Wall Brown not even realising at the time that there was such a butterfly as the Large Wall Brown. It is slightly larger then the ordinary Wall Brown (Lasiommata megera) and too me, is a richer colour of browny orange as well as having different markings on the upper wing. It enjoys basking on rocky ground which is where it was photographed.
The larval food plants are Poa species (Meadow Grasses) and Festuca species (Fescues).
