Six spot Burnet Moth Zygaena filipendulae
This is a common day flying moth: the six spot Burnet. You can see it on a variety of flowers. Here is is on Centaurea scabiosa (Greater Knapweed), in the enlargement on Echium vulgare and I have seen a good many on Thymus polytrichus (Thyme). The food plant is supposed to be Lotus corniculatus (Common Bird's-foot-Trefoil) but I have yet to see any on this common flower
