Zannichellia palustris Horned pondweed C DDD N
It's no so much that it's difficult to find this aquatic plant but that the very nature of stringy pondweeds like Zannichellia palustris means fishing around in lakes, ditches or ponds hoping that you might drag a bit out. Even when near the surface it looks much like a jumble of nondescript green slimy threads.
When out of the water the distinctive horns can be seen. It is found throughout England and Wales and Ireland but becomes increasingly less common as you go north into Scotland.
