Stylobasium australe Endemic
There are only a few members of the family Surianaceae of which Stylobasium australe is one. The genus is so named because the style is attached to the base of the ovary which is unusual. The characteristic of Stylobasium in Western Australia is that the long filaments cause the anthers to hang down well outside the small corolla of green petals. The long thin leaves distinguish it from Stylobasium spathulatum (Pebble Bush) which also occurs in the area.
Stylobasium australe is found from near Shark Bay to south of Perth both near the coast and inland.
