Sedum acre Biting Stonecrop CC DD N
This is the commonest of the Sedum genus and is found in all sorts of habitats but thrives on barren gravelly or rocky ground. The Biting part of the common name refers to the very sharp taste of the leaves which contain alkaloids, tannin and rutin. It has been used in a homeopathic cure for piles.
Apart from the highest hills of Scotland Sedum acre is found all over mainland Britain. It is found all over Ireland too but is not quite as common.
