Scorpiuris muricatus Caterpillar Plant
The fruits of this plant are sometimes in a tight coil as photographed here, but can be stretched out when they look like a caterpillar. The distinctive feature of the flowering plant (to me) is that the flowers are quite small compared with the large elongated, oval leaves.
Scorpiuris muricatus is common throughout the southern Mediterranean occurring in Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Greece Turkey, Israel and the near east, parts of the north African coast plus Madeira and the Canary Islands.
