Scilla forbesii Glory-of-the-snow DD I
This introduction from Western Turkey is a favourite early Spring flower in UK gardens so arrives in our countryside as a chuck-out and less often from seeds. There was a some indication that the site where this one grew may have been a garden years and years ago but the plant has been known here for a long time.
S. forbesii has successfully escaped to wild sites all over England and Scotland with fewer records in Wales. It has not been recorded in the wild in Ireland.
The name has recently changed (New Flora of the British Isles Third Edition by Clive Stace 2010) from Chionodoxa forbesii to Scilla forbesii.
