There are some populations of this plant in Northern England and the Midlothian region of Scotland but the highest concentration is in the Kerry region of Ireland where we saw it growing on the dark banks of a stream not far from the famous Torc waterfall. This region is also famous for something else. Midges. The midges in this part of Ireland rival the Scottish ones in ferocity and persistence so these photo were taken with more haste than you would expect.
