Salix x multinervis Hybrid Willow C DD N
This common hybrid between Salix cinerea (Grey Willow) and Salix aurita (Eared Willow) was a good sized shrub growing near parents on the bank of the Tees. As with other hybrid willows, it had been determined before by experts. You can make out the little "ears" which it has inherited from S. aurita and I am amazed to say that this photo looks very like the line drawing in the BSBI Willows handbook.
Salix x multinervis is quite common in all parts of the British Isles reflecting the distribution of its parents.
