Salix alba   White Willow CC DD N

Salix alba whole Salix alba leaves

This can be a huge tree up to 30m in height and is recognisable form a distance because of the distinct whitish look of the foliage. Like many willows it prefers wet or damp habitats so it was no surprise to find this huge tree in the flood plain of the River Thames.

Apart from the mountainous regions of northern Scotland and outer islands Salix alba is found throughout the British Isles.
