The fruits of this shrub are a target for birds who have helped this introduction to arrive in some unexpected places such as our garden. Ribes sanguineum can grow quickly from a seedling to a fully flowering shrub in just a few years.

Ribes sanguineum is found all over lowland England, Wales, Scotland and northern Ireland with far less in the south of Ireland
