Potamogeton natans   Broad-leaved Pondweed CC DD N

Potamogeton natans

This is our commonest Potamogeton pondweed but the flowers are are usually few compared with the broad leaves which can easily cover a mill pond like this one. The specific name natans means swimming and the broad leaves tend to be at or just below the surface. The light green floating weed is Lemna minor (Common Duckweed).

Potamogeton natans is found throughout the British Isles and Ireland and on many of the outer islands.
