This attractive alien plant, native to South Africa can be deep pink, light pink, lilac
or white and was plentiful on the verges in and around town. It is widely used as a garden plant
and like many Oxalis species
will spread into suitable habitat such as grass verges both by seed and by the many bulbils which
are produced around the bulb. It is also known as Grand Duchess Sorrel and Purple Woodsorrel. The
flower always has a yellow throat.
