Origanum vulgare Marjoram C DD N
This plant is very fond of the limestone areas which I like to frequent being abundant on both the Great Orme and in the Derbyshire white peak. It is a commonly used herb with leaves that have a quite strong aroma when crushed. In summer the fragrance of this herb when the weather is hot is one of the pleasures of walking in limestone country.
O. vulgare is common throughout England but records quickly diminish as you go north into Scotland. It is reasonably common in Ireland but more towards the east.
