This orchid is very similar to Orchis pauciflora but the leaves are unspotted in O. pauciflora. There were quite a few of these orchids growing in deep shade with Cyclamen repandum (Spring Sowbread).

Taxonomy: Al authorities seem to agree that the correct, accepted name for this orchid is Orchis provincialis Balb. ex Lam.
