This is Scottish version of White Water-lily which is very similar to the ssp alba of England however most of the White Water-lily this far north west is ssp occidentalis and this regions is its stronghold. The flowers are distinctly smaller than ssp alba.

Apart from some escapes in southern England, the native Nymphaea alba ssp occidentalis is mostly found in north western Scotland, Skye, the Hebrides and Shetland. There are no native plants in England or Wales but there is a little a little in western Ireland.
