Narcissus poeticus Pheasant's-eye Daffodil
During one of the few respite periods from an unusually rainy week in southern Italy, we came across a semi-cleared area in the forest with dappled shade. Narcissus poeticus was present in the hundreds contrasting with the blue of Anemone apennina. Although very familiar as a garden plant in the British Isles, this is a hill species which will grow in meadows up to 5,500 feet.
N. poeticus is found in the Pyrenees and the Alps as well as here in the Italian Gargano.
