Myosoton aquaticum   Water Chickweed C DD N

Finding this amongst ordinary Chickweed (Stellaria media) in 2005, it didn't at first register as a plant I hadn't seen that year. With its large flower and drooping heads after flowering, it looks a little like Stellaria neglecta (Greater chickweed). Examination of the stem at the top with a hand lens shows it to be covered in glandular hairs which make it very sticky to touch. The leaves clasp the stem and are cordate (heart shaped at the base).

M. aquaticum is mostly an English plant with some in Wales but little to be found in Scotland or Ireland.
