Linum narbonense   Beautiful Flax

Linum narbonense whole Linum narbonense close

This plant has the same small, very narrow, adpressed leaves which you see on other flax species but the flowers are unusually large compared with the rest of the plant - almost out of proportion. When a naturally ocurring plant has this feature the gardeners seize upon it and produce cultivars which can be colours other than blue. An additional very useful characteristic is its drought tolerance - although on our expedition to the Gargano, tolerance of wet conditions would have been more appropriate.
