Limanthes douglasii Meadow Foam DD I
In my youth I developed an interest for gardening before knowing anything about wild flowers. This was one of the first plants I got to know. An annual which is easy to grow from seed, the plants germinated well and flowered prolifically. I had never seen it in the wild until at this place, not far from civilisation it was growing in competition with some quite vigorous grass species in a meadow.
It is an introduced garden plant from North America (California) which we know as Poached-egg Plant rather than Meadow Foam.
In the British Isles it has been recorded in smallish numbers from all over these islands neither preferring neither warmer southern climes nor northern ones since it has even been found on Shetland.
